Everything the Seven Seas has to say, in the order it happened in the world and then in the order you meet it.

What happened, in order

WhenStory partWhat happened
Before humanityPart 1Old minds drift through a young world. They are not creators. They are intelligences, and the Visitors have watched them longer than humans have had names for anything.
Civilization I: The BeginningPart 1Early humans call, and the minds learn that being worshipped makes them matter. 'Resonance' is how the Gods feed. The first attempt barely survives the lizards; the stone from heaven that ends the great lizards is their first intervention.
Civilizations II-VPart 1The Builders, the Navigators, the Machine Age, the War Age. Each rises with a different strength and falls the same way: too much power, too little restraint. The fifth ends in the war the Gods will later call the Great Correction.
Civilization VI: The Ascendants (our own age)Part 4Railways, aircraft, satellites, nuclear weapons, an AI. The richest man alive, Devon Rust, learns that the world is contained. He steals immortality from the Anunnaki and breaks the shield around Earth. Everything outside gets in.
The Fall of Civilization VIPart 3A system humanity built to destroy itself does it faster than anyone can stop it: nuclear exchange, automated retaliation, an AI that has been told to understand everything. The Visitors and the Gods both see it coming.
The IcePart 3The entities preserve what is left: the Gods because a dying civilization has no resonance, the Visitors to see what happens, the Tall Ones out of conscience, the Warren as a precaution. The ice ring rises, the survivors are put to sleep or put in the Age of Sail, and the world is reset.
Civilization VII: The PresentPart 1The Age of Sail, wooden ships, gunpowder: the easiest age to keep. The Gods run it. The sea is retreating, and the captain begins to find the old world underneath.
The Captain's Story, Part IPart 1Twelve chapters, levels 1-200: mud flats, the four species, abductees, the six ages, the lying Gods, the Great Correction, the sixth civilization, the sea giving back the modern world, the Gods' panic, the First City and the Seventh Sea.
The Siege of Truth's GatePart 1Seven legends, one friend and the captain break the Gate. The ring of ice breaks for the first time since the Gods raised it.
Part II: The PassagePart 2The long winding river under the ice, the four peoples, the human timeline, the opening onto the Northern Expanse.
Part III: The Toxic Crossing and the WastelandPart 3The Far North, the green sea, the fallout world, the reconstruction of the human war, the real reason for the ice, and THEY LEFT.
Part IV: The Binary SeaPart 4The machine civilization, the AI, Devon Rust, the Universal Model at 7.1%.

How it fits together: what the later parts change about the first

The first game told you the world was the seventh humanity's, that the Gods are old minds and not creators, that the sea is giving back the modern world. Parts II to IV go on from that without contradicting it. These are the joins.

ThreadWhat Part I told youHow the story carries on
The seventh doorAt the centre of the First City stand seven doors; six are broken. (Chapter 12.)The seventh is Truth's Gate. Six civilizations broke the other doors and drowned; the seventh opens only with seven legends and one friend, a company of seven hands for seven doors.
Who the Gods areChapter 7: not creators, but old minds who found early humanity. The Council (Hermes, Zeus, Athena...) tell you you are the seventh humanity and that this age was chosen as the easiest to keep. Both stay true, and Part IV shows why they lied by omission: the Gods did not create the cycle. They were afraid of what lay past the shield, and they built the Age of Sail so nobody would go looking.
Why the Gods panickedChapter 11: storms, cults, assassins, Gods who help in secret.Because you were the first human in thousands of years to come within sight of the Gate, and because every ship that gets through weakens the ice and brings Devon's open door back into view.
Civilization VIChapter 9-10: the sixth civilization's remains, the Ascendants who became the giants, angels and sky people of legend; beneath the old world lies the modern one.Civilization VI is our own age: railways, aircraft, satellites, the bomb, the AI. 'The Ascendants' are the few who climbed out of it, Devon Rust first among them.
The Twin Giants and ThothThoth waits at the Top of the World with the Emerald Tablets; the crashed craft and the Anti-Gravity Core. The Tablets are the key that glows at the Gate; Thoth's last words ('when the water flows into the abyss, keep going') are the hand-off from Part I to Part II.
The four speciesChapter 3: four species who do not agree; alien salvage; mother ship recoveries of Titanic, Eiffel, a starship, a nuclear submarine...Part II gives each species a full storyline. The Collectors were taking what the salvage events showed (and are cataloguing humanity); the Observers were behind abductions the Gods took credit for; the Tall Ones preserve; the Warren want the ice broken and the species ended.
The ice ringThe world edge is a wall of ice mountains with one break, Truth's Gate. The ice is protection and prison both, a second shield raised over the wreck of the first after Devon broke it. The passage inside it was built to make the other side hard to reach.
The seventh seaChapter 12 ends at the First City and the Seventh Sea, a colossal structure connecting seven ages. The Seventh Sea is the doorway Truth's Gate opens onto from the other side: Part II is the road out of it.
Level capLevels 1-200 are the main story.Levels 201-750 are Parts II and III. Part IV is not entered by level: it opens as Higher Consciousness degrees and the Part IV quest chain are earned.

The four parts

  • Part 1: The Seven Seas (levels 1 to 200). The world believes it is the first. It is the seventh. Twelve chapters, levels 1 to 200, end at a frozen golden gate in the ice at the top of the world.
  • Part 2: The Passage Beyond the Gate (levels 201 to 440). Truth's Gate tears open. A hidden world of rivers, caverns, drowned machinery and four alien nations lies between you and the sky. Humanity was never meant to come this way.
  • Part 3: The Other Side of the Toxic Sea (levels 441 to 750). The haze, the warning signs, the green water that eats ships. Beyond it the dead world: cities, bunkers, and the evidence of how the last human age ended.
  • Part 4: The Binary Sea (levels 751 to and beyond). Past the wasteland the ocean turns to zeros and ones. Someone built a copy of the world. Someone is still running it.

Part I, chapter by chapter

Chapter 1: The Age of Sail (levels 1 to 19)

The world: The seas are as the charts say. Old sailors talk of floods and lost kingdoms; everyone takes it for myth.

You are told: You sail a world that feels entirely ordinary. Nobody asks why Poseidon, Odin and the old farm gods all sound so alike.

Chapter 2: Things Beneath the Water (levels 20 to 39)

The world: The first subsiding: mud flats and seabed lie bare. Nets come up with metal, glass and cable.

You are told: Fishermen drag impossible things from the sludge. A drowned city shows its upper floors, and on one wall, seven symbols.

Chapter 3: The Things from the Sky (levels 40 to 59)

The world: Lights in the night sky; silver craft come down over the deep. Four species, and they do not agree.

You are told: The visitors are looking for something. Some already know exactly where it is.

Chapter 4: The Abductees (levels 60 to 79)

The world: Coasts widen. Those who were taken describe the same rooms, the same beings, the same seven symbols.

You are told: An old sailor swears he was shown the world before the water. When the sea draws back, the city he described is there.

Chapter 5: The First Civilization (levels 80 to 99)

The world: Ruins surface on every coast: thrones, a door marked with a six, an observatory that watches the wrong stars.

You are told: Humanity was here before. More than once. And the Gods give you orders that do not agree.

Chapter 6: The Six Ages (levels 100 to 119)

The world: The records of six civilizations come up out of the mud, each with its own technology and its own ending.

You are told: You begin the Archive of the Six: every relic with its age, its place, its finder.

Chapter 7: The Gods Are Lying (levels 120 to 139)

The world: Six statues, six cultures, one face.

You are told: They are not creators. They are old minds that found early humanity and learned that worship made them matter.

Chapter 8: The Fifth Reset (levels 140 to 154)

The world: The seabed gives up the war that ended the fifth age.

You are told: They could have stopped it. They called it the Great Correction.

Chapter 9: Civilization Six (levels 155 to 174)

The world: The sixth civilization's remains, and the survivors who became the giants, angels and sky people of legend.

You are told: One of them has waited thousands of years to ask which cycle this is.

Chapter 10: The Sea Gives Back the World (levels 175 to 184)

The world: The retreat quickens: roads, railways, airports, towers, bunkers. The Age of Sail is going.

You are told: Beneath the old world lies the modern one.

Chapter 11: The Gods Panic (levels 185 to 194)

The world: Storms with names, cults with knives, assassins who do not feel the cold, corrupted things. The ice at the top of the world has begun to sing. Some Gods help in secret.

You are told: They know you remember, and they are no longer pretending otherwise. Hermes stops smiling. The Tall Ones stop whispering and start shouting: go north, and go now, before the Gods finish what they started.

Chapter 12: The Seventh Age (levels 195 to 200)

The world: The First City, and the Seventh Sea. Seven doors at its heart: six broken. In your pack the Emerald Tablets have started to burn.

You are told: YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST. YOU ARE NOT THE SEVENTH BY ACCIDENT. Six ages broke six doors and drowned. The seventh is a golden gate in the ice, and it will open only for a captain who comes with seven legends at their back and one friend at their side. Find them, and go north.

What is playable today

  • Part I's finale is playable: recruit seven legends in port, bring a friend, break Truth's Gate (server/story2_service.gd).

  • Chapters 13-24 and Part IV's chapters are written into the Discovery Log and appear when the level cap rises and the north map is open.
  • The quest list for Parts II-IV is written and shown (locked, no spoilers for those who have not broken the Gate); the north zones themselves are not yet in the game.
